Traveling to Kuwait provoked interesting reactions from friends and family. Comments ranged from, “Why?” to “You are brave” and this was prior to Kuwait Airways turning away Israeli fliers and upcoming DNA testing. Even TripAdvisor’s Travel Forum commenters posted that there was nothing to see or do. But in my continuing quest to visit every country, Kuwait seemed a natural extension to a trip to the Middle East.
Kuwait doesn’t actively market itself to tourists nor does the embassy in DC apparently answer queries. According to my hotel, there are no licensed guides and minimal sights to see. I found myself as the lone tourist at every sight. If you were planning to visit, now is the time to go, prior to Kuwait’s DNA testing law going into effect.
While Kuwait might not have a long check list of sights to see, it is fascinating. Here are my ‘must see’ recommendations:
