EFHOH Newsletter: How can Hotels and Resorts Provide Effective Access for People Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing?

According to Johns Hopkins researchers, approximately 48 million Americans report some degree of hearing loss. Since communication needs differ, these forms of commu- nication access should be available:

1- Assistive listening system/devices
2- CART (realtime captioning) and qualified inter- preters upon request

Service Desks such as Registration, Concierge, and Res- taurant Check-In

An induction loop should be installed at these locations. This allows a person with a telecoil-equipped hearing aid/ cochlear implant (HA/CI) to understand someone speaking into the microphone by simply switching the HA/CI to the T-coil setting.
